IU Northwest sponsors a chapter of Phi Alpha Theta (The National History Honor Society). There is a one-time initiation fee of $50.00 per student. This fee includes a membership certificate and four issues of the Phi Alpha Theta journal, The Historian. Membership in Phi Alpha Theta is a lifetime membership. Once the initiation fee is paid, there are no annual dues or fees. Members of Phi Alpha Theta are honored at the annual College of Arts and Sciences Honors Tea and are given a sash to wear at graduation.
To be eligible, undergraduate students must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours (4 courses) in history achieving a minimum GPA of 3.1 in history and a GPA of 3.0 or better overall. Eligible candidates must also be in the top 35% of their class. Students enrolled in an online program are not eligible. Membership is not limited to history majors.
