Maybe. If you are trying to register for a math class and you didn’t take the prerequisite math class then you will need permission to register for a math class. If you did take and pass the prerequisite math class at IUN, you will not need permission to register for a math class and you can register for the class yourself on One Start.
When registering for a math class, One Start will verify that you are registering for the math class that you placed into through Math Placement. Students will receive an error message if they try to register for a math class that they did not place into. Talk to your advisor to determine whether this is the class you really need and/or contact math department to resolve the issue.
Once the Program Coordinator received your information to allow you permission to register for a math class, she took the hold off of your account so that you can register for the math class. The Program Coordinator cannot register you for your math class, only you can access your One Start account and register for the math class.
Most likely, you are trying to register for a different class section (same class - different section number) than what you gave the Math Department. You need to register for the exact section of the math class that you requested when you contacted the Math Department. If you want to change to a different section, you need to call the Math Department and give the new class number for the section that you want to register for.
Each permission to register can only be used one time. If you drop the class and want to re-add it, you need to contact the Math Department with the class number and your student ID number again.
The Program Coordinator is processing a large number of permissions to register automatically, and will only call you back if there is a problem with processing. You need to register for the math class you requested sometime in the evening or next day. The Program Coordinator will definitely call you if there was a problem with your permission to register.
The M100 class is not a prerequisite for M118 so you need to enroll in the prerequisite class for M118, which is M117 Intermediate Algebra. Visit the Math Department website to see the course sequence for math classes here.
If you haven't taken the placement test, you can make arrangements with the Admissions office and take the test (https://northwest.iu.edu/placement-testing/english-math/index.html). However, you cannot retake the Math Placement Exam if you do not agree with the results. The Math Placement Exam has been shown to be very accurate in placing students in the correct class for their skill level.
