Geology
Students should consult with the Department of Geosciences for additional information concerning prerequisites, course content and academic counseling.
Highlighted courses in the Department of Geosciences:
- Introduction to Earth Sciences (and Laboratory)
- History of the Earth
- Introductory Mineralogy
- Introduction to Petrology
- Field and Laboratory Techniques
- Structural Geology
- Principles of Sedimentation and Stratigraphy
- Field Geology in the Rocky Mountains (or other chairperson-approved geology field camp)
Environmental Science
Required courses in the Departments of Geosciences, Chemistry, and Biology:
- Introduction to Earth Sciences (and laboratory)
- Introductory Mineralogy
- Principles of Chemistry I and II & Experimental Chemistry I and II
- Introduction to Biological Sciences I and II(lecture and laboratory)
Required courses in Public and Environmental Affairs (Allied Environment) include ONE of the following:
- Environmental Law
- Environmental Mediation
Students complete a combined total of 40 credit hours from two scientific disciplines (geology, chemistry, biology). The 40 credit hours need not be equally divided between the two disciplines. The list of acceptable coursework is available through the Department of Geosciences.
Required Allied Sciences Courses:
- Calculus
- Statistics
- Physics I and II
A Senior Seminar in the Department of Geosciences, Chemistry or Biology is required.
