Students needing assistance for a temporary impairment should contact the Accessible Educational Services Coordinator as soon as possible to determine how best to make alternative arrangements.
Temporary impairments are those that recently occurred due to an injury, illness, or surgery. They are not covered under the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), but often require some assistance on a limited basis based so the student does not get behind in class.
An example is a temporary hand, wrist, arm or shoulder injury that limits the student’s ability to write at a normal rate during convalescence.
The final disposition of academic adjustments depends on the condition, instructor and reasonableness of the adjustment needed to continue with the class.
