Meet Resident Director for Bilbao
The University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) Bilbao / Getxo program has a Resident Director who is responsible for the USAC office abroad and overall operations of the program: securing appropriate student housing, hiring outstanding faculty, organizing exciting field trips and optional tours, and overseeing your general well-being.
Dr. Ibon Zamanillo is the Resident Director for the Bilbao / Getxo program. Ibon holds an MS in Industrial Engineering from the Engineering School of Bilbao and graduated Cum Laude with a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of the Basque Country. He has been a faculty member at the University of the Basque Country for ten years, and an esteemed business professor for the USAC Bilbao / Getxo program since 2002. Ibon will meet the group flight at the airport, arrange for you to be taken to your housing and provide an on-site orientation. The USAC Bilbao / Getxo staff also provides additional assistance and resources while you are on the program.
Description of the video:
My name is Ibon Zamanillo and I'm the Resident Director of the USAC program
in Bilbao in Spain. I started teaching for USAC in 2002 and I've been
directing this program since 2008. I think that what I like best about USAC
is being surrounded by young people every year. As I like to say
they're always the same age but that doesn't happen the same with me which is a little bit sad but
I still get a lot of energy from students. Bilbao is the city where I was born. I was
born and raised there so I like everything in the city but I think it's
a safe, walkable city perfect for those who want to have a true experience of
what studying abroad in Spain is like. Something that our students love too is
what we call Cultural Fridays. We always do something fun after classes
on Friday. It could be anything from visiting the soccer stadium or
doing a hike. So to me, one of the most fun parts of
our field trips is that we always try to incorporate some sport activity. It could
be either going down the river or kayaking or something like that. I know that the
students love that too. Of course we always add some cultural visit and
cultural dimension to the field trips definitely and the sport activities are fun for the students.
Come to Bilbao! We are waiting for you in Bilbao!
