Science Olympiad Regional Competition at IU Northwest
The College of Arts and Science is pleased to support the annual IU Northwest Science Olympiad Regional. This tournament is one of nine such tournaments in Indiana. Each February over twenty middle and high school teams from the area compete in over 50 science related events. Three middle and three high school teams advance to the state competition. The top teams in the state competition advance to the national tournament. The IU Northwest Regional is proud to have between 70 and 90 student, faculty and community volunteers help in making it possible. Mini-Clinic
Nineteen schools and over 120 teachers, students and volunteers participated in the 2011 Science Olympiad Mini-clinic on Saturday November 12. This event was designed to help coaches and students prepare for the 2012 Science Olympiad regional tournaments and start the coaching season. Emphasis was on learning the techniques and science behind many of the 2012 Science Olympiad tournament events. We thank the College of Arts and Sciences for funding of this event.

Redhawk Debate Tournament
Students from several area high schools visit the IU Northwest campus to participate in a series of competitive debate events hosted by the Department of Communication. Participating schools from past years include Chesterton, Gary, Hammond, Highland, LaPorte, Penn, Munster and Valparaiso High Schools.

Power Up for Science
Power Up for Science is a focused effort to address the academic achievement needs of Gary Community School Corporation students in the upper elementary and middle school grade levels by enhancing the capacity of their teachers in the area of science instruction.

Little Calumet River and Wetlands Preserve
Adjacent to campus, IU Northwest is establishing, expanding, and managing a nature preserve in the heart of Gary. The Little Calumet River Prairie & Wetlands Nature Preserve consists of 11 acres of prairie, wetland and woodland immediately north of the main campus parking lot.

Speech Forum
The semi-annual Speech Forum invites the campus community and the public to hear and witness a public speaking competition of IU Northwest students selected from their public speaking classes.
