What is the Daily RedHawk?
The Daily RedHawk is the official mode of mass communication for daily updates for Indiana University Northwest. It is an email news bulletin that is sent out Monday through Friday to all faculty, staff, and students.
When is the Daily RedHawk distributed?
The Daily RedHawk is sent at 6 a.m. CT, Monday through Friday. If there are no posts submitted, it is not sent.
How do I sign up to receive the Daily RedHawk?
All faculty, staff, and students with IU Northwest email addresses automatically receive the Daily RedHawk.
What types of information can be posted to the Daily RedHawk?
The Daily RedHawk is for news and information about IU Northwest-related topics that appeal to a wide audience of faculty, staff and students. Examples include organizational changes, new initiatives, status on construction or repairs, physical moves, new technology, technology breakdown, events, open meetings, health and security alerts, key deadlines, student employment opportunities, and more.
What type of information cannot be posted to the Daily RedHawk?
Items that may not be shared via the Daily RedHawk include advertising and/or fundraising for any non-IU Northwest group, even if an IU Northwest community member is affiliated with or sponsoring it. The types of information that should be kept confidential (not released internally and externally) include, but are not limited to: personal and personnel issues such as illness or medical information (unless it puts the wider community at risk), grievances, personal legal proceedings, discrimination issues, salaries, and nonfactual or unproven information.
Who monitors the Daily RedHawk to make sure posted items are appropriate and correct?
Administrators in the Office of Marketing and Communications monitor the Daily RedHawk and have the authority to edit or delete posts as needed.
How do I submit a message?
Fill out the Daily Redhawk webform to include all the necessary information you would like to share in the Daily RedHawk. The form will ask you for the subject line, the message text, and will allow for shareable links. To share additional details on a program or initiative, please share a web page; and for events share the LiveWhale calendar entry's link.
Please note that there is a 1,000 character-limit for messages. Images and attachments are not allowed based on the technology and the commitment by IU Northwest to providing resources to IU employees, students, and visitors with disabilities.
What is the deadline for posting a message?
Items must be submitted by 2 p.m. CST to be included in the following day’s Daily RedHawk. For Monday’s edition, items must be received by 2 p.m. CST the Friday before.
What are some overall best practices for Daily RedHawk messages?
The goal of the Daily RedHawk is to serve as a campus resource to conveniently access the latest campus news. Our goal is to make the messages in the Daily RedHawk as concise and clearly formatted as possible for easy reading. Limit the amount of text you include, utilize bulleted lists instead of blocks of copy when possible, and include links for further information to limit message length.
Can I edit my message after I submit?
If you have an edit to your message after you’ve submitted the form, please email dailyrh@iun.edu as soon as possible with the correction.
Can I upload attachments or images?
No. Images and attachments are not allowed based on the technology and the commitment by IU Northwest to providing resources to IU employees, students, and visitors with disabilities. This includes accessible content, and attachments and images may hinder accessibility. In addition, images and attachments may
greatly impact mobile data usage for readers viewing content on their mobile devices. As an alternative, we suggest directing the reader to your web page or LiveWhale calendar entry for related information.
Can I schedule my post to run ahead of time or repeatedly?
No. There is no functionality available to schedule posts to publish at a future time. For a repeated entry, you must resubmit the message to the Daily Redhawk.
How often can I post the same message?
Due to the volume posts, duplicate items may only be published five times and not repeated within the same calendar week. The only exception will be for posts promoting events occurring in the current calendar week. (Example: For a Wednesday event, you may submit posts on Monday and Tuesday promoting the event happening tomorrow and today, respectively)
Who do I contact with questions?
Please email the Daily RedHawk at dailyrh@iun.edu.
