I.C. 21-39-5 defines the authority of IU Northwest in regards to traffic and parking control. The regulations applicable to traffic and parking may include but are not limited to:
- Provisions governing the registration, speed, operation, parking and times, places, and manner of use of motor vehicles, bicycles, and other vehicles.
- Provisions prescribing penalties for the violations of regulations that may include the imposition of reasonable charges, the removing and impounding of vehicles which are operated or parked in violation of the regulations at the expense of the violator, and the denial of permission to operate vehicles on the property of such an institution.
- Provisions establishing reasonable charges and fees approved by the Board of Trustees for the registration of vehicles.
- Provisions regarding the use of parking spaces or facilities owned and operated by such an institution.
The law does not limit or restrict the powers of any other governmental authority with jurisdiction over public streets, roads, or alleys.

All violations notices are to be paid or appealed at parking.iu.edu within 14 days from the date of infraction.
Violations that are upheld by the Parking Appeals Committee must be paid. Non-Students will have seven days to pay the violation fee. Students wth violation fees will be automatically billed to Bursar. Past due violation charges will be sent to Student Accounts or Collections.
- You have the right to appeal a citation within 14 calendar days from the date of issuance online. Along with your written statement for appeal, you may be asked to submit additional documentation during the appeal process. Documentation must be provided within 14 calendar days. If the requested documentation is not submitted within the 14 calendar days, the appeal will be denied.
- Appeals can be submitted online at parking.iu.edu
- The Parking Appeals Committee is made up of faculty, staff, and students who are independent of Parking Services. Appeal decisions will be delivered via email within approximately 30 calendar days after the appeal submission.
- Vehicles parking within IU Northwest campus may be towed if:
- The vehicles in violation of towable offenses listed under Regulations.
- The vehicle has more than six paid or unpaid violations within a fiscal year.
- The vehicle is abandoned.
- Vehicles are towed at owner’s expense.
- A person who accumulated six or more paid or unpaid parking violations may be subject to towing. The tow warning will give the violator 48 hours to settle all charges, or the vehicle may be towed, or the Boot may be applied.
