Goal 1
IUN will engage in high-impact research and creative activity to improve the lives of people in Indiana and beyond.
IUN continues to embrace its history of providing the region access to university, faculty, and student resources. The campus will broadly increase access to these resources through the establishment of offices that readily provide services to the community, particularly those identified as potentially improving the lives of the people in Indiana and beyond.
- Leveraging internal and external funding, IUN will establish a collaborative Regional Research/Data Analytics Hub, engaging IUN faculty in research, scholarship and creative activities. The Hub will address critical issues confronting our communities, serving as a gateway for economic development associations, nonprofits, political representatives, government entities and community-based organizations in need of research and analysis support to utilize data more effectively in decision making and planning. Partnering with the communities, the Hub will capitalize on the expertise of faculty and students, facilitating collaborations with talent across multiple disciplines from all IU campuses to benefit northwest Indiana.
- Increase the number of partnerships with economic development associations, nonprofits, political representatives, government entities and community-based organizations to impact policy decisions and practices across the northwest Indiana region.
Goal 2
IUN will increase research and creative activity; create a more pervasive culture of research; advance diversity, equity and inclusion in its community; expand opportunities for students; and work to reduce or eliminate barriers.
IUN will strengthen its existing culture of excellence in research and creative activities, and continue to support those activities that enhance our, the region’s and the state’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
- IUN will include research and creative activities with students, community engagement and diversity, equity, and inclusion work as evidence acceptable to declare adequacy or excellence in promotion and tenure guidelines.
- Adopt new promotion and tenure guidelines for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Goal 3
IUN will allocate research facilities and assess those allocations regularly, based on productivity.
As an institution of higher education committed to providing our students, faculty, and staff with the best facilities for instruction, including clinical instruction, IUN will continue to assess and enhance facilities.
- Access US Department of Education and other federal funding, much of which is allowable because of our status as a Hispanic-Serving Institution.
- Support faculty in grant writing and acquisitions based on their record of outstanding disciplinary research in order to address laboratory and research facility needs.
- Update faculty research labs, based on the availability of external grant funds.
