To change, delete, or add a College of Arts and Sciences Major or Minor, send an email to Plan Changes from your IU email account and include the following information:
- Name
- Student ID#
- What Major/minor you are changing from and what Major/minor you are changing to (be sure to include BS, BA, or BFA for your Major).
If you prefer, you may fill out a paper form available in Hawthorn Hall 246 (or HH231 or HH225.)

- What Major you are transferring from and what Major/minor you are transferring to (be sure to include BS, BA, or BFA for your Major, or put Exploratory).

1) Meet with your academic advisor. To find out who your advisor is, consult the Undergraduate Advising Contacts list.
2) Consult the Group Distribution and IW Matrix: Use the app or pdf
3) Consult the IU Northwest Bulletin.
4) Avoid self advising.

If you are a continuing student in the College of Arts and Sciences and have been absent for more than one semester, OR if you had applied for graduation but need to take further courses, you must take two steps:
1) Send an email to Term Activation from your IU email account or call 219-980-6733 and include the following information:
- Name
- Student ID#
- What Major/minor you are pursuing
- What semester you wish to register for
2) Contact or visit the Office of the Registrar to do a Residency Verification (not needed if you are enrolled in the current semester).
1) If you are a student in the College of Arts and Sciences, set up an appointment with an advisor in your major, or with an Exploratory Advisor if you do not have a major. If you do not know your advisor, consult the Undergraduate Advising Contacts list.
2) After you have met with the advisor, please ask them to send an email with your name and ID number to Remove Advising Hold.
An Extended-x is defined in the IU Northwest Bulletin here.
To request an Extended-x in the College of Arts and Sciences, you must meet the following criteria:
- Have taken both the initial course and the repeated course at an IU campus
- Have gotten a grade lower than an "A" in the initial class
- Have received a final grade in the repeated course
- An Extended-x is available for up to three classes or 10 credits.
- Consult the academic bulletin for more detail
Send an email to COAS Extended-x from your IU email account and include the following information:
- Name
- Student ID#
- What course you wish to Fx
