Your team will be assigned a classroom which will serve as your homeroom for the day. Use it as headquarters for the day. Please clean up the room at the end of the day. The gymnasium will have a section cordoned off for large items. Someone will be there at all times to make sure your items are safe.
Yes and no. Strictly speaking the maximum is 15. However, the Indiana Science Olympiad Committee agreed that additional students (alternates) could participate. These additional students are restricted to the trial events only. Additional students will be identified at registration.
Our goal is to offer all B and C events that count towards the team's overall standing. We have offered up to three trial events in past years, but will not be offering any trial events in the 2023 tournament.
We are planning to offer Botany, Engineering and Solar Power at the 2024 tournament.
First, second and third place plaques will be awarded in both Division B and Division C.
For the IU Northwest Tournament on February 4, 2023, medals will be given to the top four teams for each event. If an event has five or fewer teams competing, medals may be limited to first through third place.
Judges are given wide latitude how they will handle their event. Therefore their decision will usually be the last word. However, in the unusual situation where a coach insists on mediation there will be an Arbitration Committee. There is an arbitration form that the coach must fill out and submit to the committee. The decision of this committee is final.
Feel free to contact the tournament director by sending an email to iunsciol@iun.edu or by phone at (219) 980-6718.
All event sign-ups are being handled through Scilympiad. Coaches will be notified once the site has been configured to accept sign-ups.
The gym ceiling height is 36.03 feet (10.98 meters). This is measured from the basketball court (floor) to the corrugated metal supports of the ceiling.
The runners up B and C teams at the various regionals are invited to the Wild Card tournament which usually takes place in March. The top teams in the Wild Card tournament are invited to participate in the State Science Olympiad tournament. This tournament is not held every year.
We do not anticipate dividing schools by class size for the 2023 tournament. In future tournaments, if there are enough schools competing, we may divide by class size but only for the purpose of awarding team plaques.
TBD. We will update once we have confirmation. The campus bookstore will be open and they offer bottled drinks and a variety of snacks. There are also vending machines located in the following places on campus:

- On the second floor of Hawthorn Hall close to the north stairwell
- On the first floor of Moraine Hall on the west side of the student lounge
- On the second floor of the Savannah Center at the top of the stairs by the gym
Yes! Please stop by and grab a snack, a drink, or some awesome IU Northwest gear!
Lab space limitations make this split necessary.
All forms are available via Scilympiad.
