In order to apply to the School of Library and Information Science at Indianapolis, you must fill out and submit your application online.

When applying, you must also submit a personal goals essay of at least 500 words. This is a requirement for your application process. It is encouraged to submit an essay between 1000 to 1500 words so that you can include leadership, teamwork and technology experiences. The essay is also to describe your academic and professional goals in relation to the SLIS degree program. This is part of the admission process, so it is important to include the essay in your application submission. For guidelines on your essay, please refer to the Personal Essay Questions page.

After everything has been received by the SLIS Indianapolis, the application process will take approximately 4 weeks. A letter of admission or denial will be mailed to you.
Yes, students are able to take classes while they wait to be officially admitted into the program. However, the student will be enrolled as a Non-Degree seeking student. At that time a student can take S401 which is a SLIS prerequisite, and six (6) additional SLIS graduate credit hours. No more than 6 credit hours can be completed prior to admission decision into the MLS Program. This also applies to those seeking entrance into the public or school library certification program.
Yes and no.Students who do not have at least an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale for a completed graduate degree are required to take the GRE or GMAT in order to be admitted into the school.
- Acceptable score for the GRE:
- MINIMUM of 500 each for the verbal and for quantitative reasoning areas of the exam.
- For the writing the minimum acceptable score is a 4.5 out of 6.0.
- Acceptable score for the GMAT:
- A minimum of 31 in each area.
- Such scores serve in part for consideration for admission as well as other factors.

SLIS admits students from a wide variety of academic backgrounds. Some of the more common disciplines include English, History, Sociology, and Education. Because of the academic diversity among our students and faculty, remarkable creativity and innovation has resulted. Students from all backgrounds are welcome. It depends on you and your schedule. If you work and want to attend classes you are able to do so. SLIS offers weekend classes and distance education courses. There is also the option of taking classes online. Full-time is at least 8 credit hours per semester and part-time is at least 4 credit hours a semester.Financial Aid is often based on how many credit hours you are attending. It is important to contact IUPUI's Financial Aid office to determine your eligibility especially if you plan to attend part-time.
