IU Northwest is working to create a sustainable and resilient community, both on campus and beyond, through research and creative activity, teaching and instruction, outreach and service, and responsible campus operations. Sustainability is often defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Founded in 2020, the Office of Sustainability recognizes the interconnectedness and interdependence between the natural ecosystems, local economies, human health, and social development in “the Region”.
Recognizing the strengths inherent in our ecological and social diversity, and our history of a strong industrial economy, our goal is to foster and facilitate innovative and creative actions to enhance regional resiliency, improve quality of life, and to help Northwest Indiana thrive.
