Equal Opportunity Affirmative Action UA-01
IU Northwest pledges itself to continue its commitment to the achievement of equal opportunity within the University and throughout American society as a whole.
Indiana University shall take affirmative action, positive and extraordinary, to overcome the discriminatory effects of traditional policies and procedures with regard to the disabled, minorities, women, and veterans.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) UA-02
IU Northwest is committed to maintaining an inclusive and accessible environment across all of its campuses. Ensuring that all members of the university community have access to facilities, information, and information technology associated with administration and services, coursework and instruction, programs, and university-sponsored activities is critical to the university's educational mission and is among its highest priorities.
Indiana University provides reasonable accommodations in order to make its services, programs, and activities accessible to qualified individuals with disabilities.
Individual students, staff, and faculty members are responsible for identifying themselves as an individual with a disability when seeking an accommodation or, specifically in the case of students, a modification to an academic program.
Discrimination, Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct UA-03
Individuals who believe they have experienced discrimination, harassment and/or sexual misconduct in violation of this policy, and all members of the university community who may be aware of such incidents, are encouraged to promptly report incidents of discrimination, harassment, and/or sexual misconduct to the appropriate designated officials.
Some employees may have reporting obligations based on their role and responsibilities under this and other policies.
Retaliation against anyone who makes a report of discrimination, harassment and/or sexual misconduct, or who participates in an investigation under any of the complaint resolution procedures set forth herein, is prohibited.
U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) (Link)
A charge of discrimination is a signed statement asserting that an organization is engaged in employment discrimination. It requests EEOC to take remedial action.
Indiana University Office of Institutional Equity
The Office of Institutional Equity was created in 2018 when two long-standing offices, the Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity and the Office of Student Welfare and Title IX, were merged.
The office provides direction and expertise to the University’s efforts to promote institutional equity. It has been charged with the responsibility for:
- Managing the University's Non-Discrimination/Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Policy (UA-01) and its Discrimination, Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct Policy (UA-03) .
- Coordinating the University's Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Policy (UA-02) .
- Overseeing the University's compliance with federal civil rights laws including Title IX, Title VII, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- The Student Welfare Initiative, an intensified effort to respond to sexual assault and all forms of sexual violence misconduct across campuses
The office thus supports and advises the efforts of officers on all IU campuses in ensuring a diverse and equitable work and academic environment for all members of the university.
