Dr. Fisher is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Indiana University Northwest, where she teaches courses in Microbiology, including Medical Microbiology and Environmental Microbiology. Her research focuses broadly on bacterial communities at the intersection of natural aquatic resources, urban infrastructure, and human health.
She uses both culture-based and molecular techniques in microbial source tracking and wastewater epidemiology studies and incorporates this research into her undergraduate curriculum. She is currently investigating the impacts of septic system effluent on water and beach sand along the southern coast of Lake Michigan and trends in emerging antibiotic resistance.
