Dr. Murase is interested in understanding why some (but not all) people who consume substances are more likely than others to suffer from negative consequences. More specifically, she aims to understand the roles various factors of emotion dysregulation play when predicting increased alcohol use and alcohol-related problems. She is also interested in understanding the relationships between self-compassion, compassion for others, interpersonal problems, and alcohol use/problems.
