Dr. LaPointe joined the faculty at Indiana University Northwest in January 2004. He received tenure as Associate Professor of Biology in 2009 and concurrently holds the position of adjunct Assistant Professor of Cellular and Integrative Physiology at the Northwest Center for Medical Education, Indiana University School of Medicine. He is also the Director and advisor for the Pre-health Professions Program (PHP) at IU Northwest.
Dr. LaPointe received his B.S. from Loyola University, Chicago, with a double major in Biology and Classical Studies in 1979 and his Ph.D. from the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the Illinois University School of Medicine at UIC, in Chicago, in 1988. After receiving his doctorate, he completed a four year postdoctoral research fellowship in the Department Medicine at the Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University. He then continued at Northwestern University as an Assistant Professor of Research at the medical school for about 12 years before joining the faculty at IU Northwest.
Dr. LaPointe has co-authored 21 scientific manuscripts, 3 book chapters, and 86 abstracts for presentation at local, national, and international conferences. He has been nominated for and received several teaching awards.
