Kate Gustafson

Kate Gustafson joined the faculty of Indiana University Northwest in August 2014, and teaches literature and composition classes. She received her Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania and her B.A. in English from Kenyon College.

Dr. Gustafson’s research focuses on the intersections between social and literary formation in the eighteenth century, in particular the history of children’s literature, the rise of the novel, and the development of childhood and adolescence as social categories. She has published in the Burney Journal and Literature Compass. She is co-editing a collection of children’s books by William Godwin for Romantic Circles, and is finishing a book manuscript on the history of the novel and adolescent readers in the eighteenth century. She has held fellowships through the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Pew Foundation, and the University of Pennsylvania, and recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University.
